Why You Can't Sit Still And Write Your Script
I’ve recently started reading “Deep Work” by Cal Newport.
The book talks about how the most valuable skill is to have uninterrupted time to go deep and do creative work.
I found myself struggling to write scripts for my own channel, while running a business:
Responding to Slack messages every half a second
Opening Whatsapp to check for messages from family members
And scrolling my email to respond to a hot prospect (because the laws of lead generation dictate you have to respond to an email within an hour)
And whenever I sat down for my dedicated time to write scripts, my mind would drift off towards scrolling on YouTube for “inspiration”.
Surprise, surprise, the script never gets written.
As business owners, we struggle to find the time to have any deep work because of the nature of our jobs.
We are operators.
The money comes from managing employees, responding to emails and making sure that the machine is running smoothly.
But to make a great YouTube script, you need to sit down for 3-5 hours at minimum to get a concrete script out.
And even then, the content is usually still subpar.
Writing YouTube scripts (or any thought piece) requires you to go deep in the dungeon to synthesize original thought and string it together in a cohesive manner.
Without the time to set aside, you might as well not write the script.
Which led me to this insight:
The reason why it's so difficult for business owners to write their own YouTube scripts is because they are used to doing so much shallow work (responding to emails, team calls).
To write a coherent script with unique insights you need uninterrupted time for deep work.

“Deep Work” perfectly illustrates the difficulty of a business owner not just not having the time to write their own scripts, but also the space to breathe for their ideas to organically form.
Just a thought I had while reading, had to run to the computer to jot it down.
Hope this was insightful,
Bryan
