My Feud With Amplify Views

I’m in Bangkok staying with my good friend Linden.

Some of you may know him as Amplify Views.

Linden runs this channel

Pretty based guy.

Both of us talk about YouTube growth (he mainly goes broader and teaches how to get subscribers, I mainly talk about YouTube scriptwriting).

And while both of us have similar philosophies when it comes to growing a YouTube channel, the way that we both script our videos are completely different.

My videos will go deep on a certain topic.

In this video…

I opt to have 4 clear main talking points in the script. And I go deep and fully explain each aspect of it.

But if you look at Linden’s most viewed video:

The way that it’s scripted is that he has 9 mini YouTube concepts that he talks about throughout the video.

And he hits each of them relatively surface level, and goes on to the next point.

Almost as if you’re watching 9 Instagram reels one after another.

The benefit of this approach is that the retention is high, because you are giving the viewer dopamine hit after dopamine hit in fast succession, making them want to watch the video from start to finish.

By the end of watching it, it almost feels like 10 minutes hadn’t even gone by.

So… my approach to scripting goes deeper on an idea, while Linden’s approach is to have multiple points linked to one another.

We’ve had long conversations about which style is better, and here’s my take:

Linden’s dopamine scripting style is great for retention and getting views, but fails to build trust.

My scripting style builds a high level of trust because I completely solve a single problem for the viewer, but loses out on views because it suffers from losing out on the dopamine addicted viewers.

No style is right or wrong, just depends on what your goal is for that specific video.

If you want to build deep trust, you should make longer videos with less payoffs, but make sure that you completely explain a single idea.

If you’re optimizing for views, stacks as many talking points on top of another in an elegant manner

Thought this was an interesting conversation to share.

Hope this helps,
