I Hate Taking Pictures
Kinda a waste of time no?
Bryan! Take more pictures!
Mum, Dad and friends want to know where the heck I’ve been, what I’ve been up to, and the whole shabang.
And to be darn honest:
I can’t be arsed.
Taking pictures is wayyy too much of a chore.
When I was traveling Europe for the whole of April, I probably whipped out my Samsung (sue me) and took a grand total of 10 pictures.
A waste?
Maybe… But I don’t feel like I’ve got the confidence with the camera to produce something good.
The best I do is turn my phone upside down for a full body long shot.
That’s all I got.
It’s not that I don’t think it’s important to know how to take good pictures - I just haven’t spent the time to learn how to become a semi-professional photographer.
Really - that’s the case with most skills.
Like getting good on camera, public speaking, or videography.
But most often, the skills that most people agree are of high value to learn, yet are unwilling to put in the time to hone are usually the skills that you want to dedicate your time to learning.
Aka people agree that learning how to speak in public is important, but no one wants to practice it — making it an even more high-value skill to have under your belt.
Just like how if you want to get good at YouTube, everyone agrees that you need to learn how to write a great script, yet no one actively puts in the reps to become the best.
The reality is that to get good at any skill, you only need 10 hours of focused work to become the top 20%.
So if you want to become a top 20% scriptwriter, you have to work past the first 10 hours of pulling your teeth, crawling through the mud, and eventually, you will become great.
And once you’re done with those 10 hours, you’d be pretty good.
But to become great, put in another 100 hours learning scriptwriting.
Because good is the enemy of great.
Here’s a selfie of me in a podcast studio writing this email:
Actionable YouTube Tip of The Day:
(Implement this to make better videos)
Set aside 1 hour a day to work on your YouTube Scripts
10 days later you’d be done with 10 hours
That’s how you become the top 20%
