Why I'm Leaving My Hometown

Singapore is great but...

I love Singapore.

What’s there not to love about the skyscrapers, good food and our world class airport (which airport has a whole forest in it?)

But I’ve just had a huge realisation.

In the past 2 weeks, I’ve not left the house at all.

I mean like at all.

Wake up, do some writing, build the business, scroll a little Tiktok, watch Suits and repeat.

It’s not that I’m not sociable.

It’s not that there isn’t anything to do here (ok a little).

And it’s definitely not that I only want to work.

But the real reason why I’ve decided to leave Singapore and travel for at least a few months is this:

Singapore is comfortable, yet uncomfortable.

Wtf are you saying, Bryan?

Let me explain.

Singapore has too good amenities: healthcare is great, food is relatively affordable and jobs are somewhat stable.

But people here are also disgruntled.

Houses are the highest its been in the past 50 years.

Cars cost $180,000 a pop.

The cost of living is simply too high.

So on one end, we have stable jobs, with a government that cares about you, the safest country in the world…

And on the other, there is a frustration that Singapore has become one of the world’s most expensive cities to live in.

As a result, people are willing to live in a state of mild discomfort, never working to change their status quo.

And it is only when we experience the most intense discomforts, do we make the most drastic changes in our lives:

e.g. Death of a family member, losing your job, having no money in your bank account.

We need to experience intense discomfort before we can experience positive change.

And in my opinion, there is nothing more uncomfortable than leaving Singapore to explore unknown parts of the world on your own.

And YouTube is exactly the same.

Getting on camera for the first time is the most nerve-racking thing in the world.

Posting your first video knowing your friends might judge you is discomfort.

Writing that script even though you know the first draft will be terrible feels bad in the moment.

But it is only through putting yourself through the YouTube discovery phase of discomfort that will teach you the lessons that you need to know to post consistent bangers.

Get uncomfortable.

Actionable YouTube Tip of The Day:

(Implement this to make better videos)

  1. Edit your YouTube script by reading it out loud

  2. Critique every single sentence and ask yourself what the purpose of each line is

  3. Repeat 2 to 3 times until you have a refined script.

How I Can Help You:

  1. I have a tonne of free content that will help you grow your YouTube channel on my YouTube. I post valuable insights and bangers of my own every week. I package YouTube concepts in a simple way so you can grow your own channel too.

  2. I post daily on Twitter/X too. Follow me there for daily scriptwriting insights/ YouTube trends.

  3. If you’d like to hear about how I could help you grow your YouTube channel with viral scripts, you can book a call with me here. I might be able to help you grow faster, or I might be able to refer you to someone who can.
