What I Learned Living with a 28k Subscriber YouTube Strategist
Last week, I flew to Bangkok to stay with my good friend Linden.
He ran up Joel Kaplan’s channel from 0 to 200k subscribers in the SMMA space, and scaled that company to $600k in revenue solely from organic content.
Smart guy.
And I got the chance to spend the week with him.
We talked about everything under the sun, from his childhood, his time working with Joel, all the way to his love life.
One of the things that stood out to me talking to him was his relentless commitment to ideation.
In a day, he’d probably spent 1-2 hours just scrolling YouTube and ideating new video concepts for Amplify Views (28k subscribers in 8 months) and his clients.
He ideates, lets those ideas marinate, and searches for more ideas before finalizing on one that he wants to execute
That might seem obvious to most of you.
But for me - I spend the bulk of my day writing, editing and coming up with angles for scripts.
I’m constantly in execution mode, focused on getting the work done and making sure every piece of content is polished to perfection.
It’s a grind, but it allows me to create the most high quality videos possible.
So watching him ideate for his channel was eye-opening for me.
I’ve been so focused on the scripting portion of my videos that I’ve neglected the power of stepping back and letting ideas flow.
Ideation requires it’s own dedicated time, but if you can have great ideas and execute them on a high level. You’re setting yourself up for success.
Food for thought as you’re about to script your next video.
Speak soon,
Bryan
P.S.
Lots of my content focuses on scriptwriting. And perhaps not enough on ideation.
But I do have one video that has a strong section on ideation + research.
